The Sable vineyard is located in Blewitt Springs and consists of deep sandy soils. It is 6 hectares of 80-year-old Syrah and Grenache vines. The fruit was hand harvested on the same day with roughly 60% Syrah and 40% Grenache. Early picking and gentle extraction has made this wine light in frame and structure, there is plum and violet core. The tannins are fine from the sandy soils and there is a refreshing lift with the long line of natural acidity. 
About the Producer

On the site of a former hippy commune, siblings Jasper and Sophie Button farm three and a half hectares of organically managed vines in the heart of the Adelaide Hills. Having grown up in a tight-knit winemaking community, the pair were exposed to all things wine-related but showed initial reluctance to follow in the footsteps of their grape-growing parents.

When Jasper met fellow Basket Ranger Anton van Klopper – natural wine trailblazer and the brains behind Lucy Margaux – he became interested in buying some grapes. After a brisk and enlightening education in natural wine, from growing to making, from Anton himself, Jasper Buttons began restoring his site and transitioning to organic and biodynamic principles, and decided that rather than sell off his prized grapes to others, he'd turn his hand to winemaking. This culminated in the birth of Commune of Buttons in 2014.

Jasper and Sophie have captured the essence of their Basket Ranges Estate with this field blend crafted from organic Pinot Noir and Chardonnay.

The wine has parcels of direct pressed and skin contact fruit from both varieties and they have been blended and raised in tank for energy and verve.
