Loire

The history of winemaking in the Loire Valley dates back to the Roman era, where the Romans introduced advanced winemaking techniques and expanded the vineyards, laying the foundation for the Loire Valley's future as a major wine-producing area.

From the Atlantic to the Centre region, the Loire is very vast. With soils of schist, silica, chalk (tufa) or clay, and a climate that varies from mild oceanic to harsh continental, it is easy to understand the great diversity - the same grape varieties are found in the sixty or so appellations: Cabernet, Gamay, Pinot Noir, Pineau d'Aunis, Côt, Melon, Sauvignon, Chardonnay, Chenin, Romorantin. The wines range from light and fresh to racy with great ageing potential, and sparkling too.
